GOODWELL – In an announcement that was not entirely unexpected, Oklahoma Panhandle State University Head Volleyball Coach Signe Coombs has informed the school she will not be returning to the Aggies. Her husband, Aaron Coombs, resigned as OPSU’s men’s basketball coach two weeks ago to accept the head coach position at NCAA Division II Georgia Southwestern State University.

Signe Coombs took over the Aggies’ volleyball program just two weeks before the 2018 pre-season was due to begin, when the head coach position was vacated unexpectedly. Assuming the duties at the proverbial “11th hour,” she finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 9-13. The Lady Aggies also reached the post-season for the first time to compete in the qualifying match for the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.

“We appreciate what Signe did for our volleyball program under difficult circumstances,” OPSU Director of Athletics Meghan Mulcahy said. “It is a credit to her dedication to our student-athletes. We also understand the family dynamic that comes into play and wish the Coombs’ family all the best in their next chapter!”

In the interim, Assistant Coach Shelby Bartley will handle volleyball-related matters.
