CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The WGCA All-American Scholars were announced last week, with two Aggie women’s golf student-athletes being a part of the 1,401 women’s collegiate golfers recognized with the prestigious honor.
Cameron’s Allison Duffin and Iona Roska were both awarded with the honor, Duffin for the fourth time in her CU career and Roska for the third time.
Duffin, a senior from San Antonio, Texas, is no stranger to this honor as she has been named a WGCA All-American Scholar each of her four years at Cameron. Despite a shortened spring, the business major put together a strong senior campaign, averaging a 79.70 stroke average over 10 rounds of golf. Her success on the golf course and in the classroom earned her a spot on the Lone Star Conference All-Academic team for the third straight season.
“Allison gave us four great years on and off the golf course,” said CU head women’s golf coach Christi Williams about her graduating senior. “Being a 4-time All American scholar is a testament to her tremendous work ethic. I am very proud of her and she set the bar high for our program.”
Roska, a junior from Inverness, Scotland, is also familiar with the honor as she has earned the prestigious award all three years of her CU career. This season, she led the Aggies with a 76.50 scoring average while playing in all five tournaments during the shortened season. The business major opened the year with a career-low 69 on her way to a fourth place finish at the Tarleton Texan Invite. Roska also finished in the top-5 at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate, CU’s home event, and came in 10th at the UCO Classic in the fall.
“Iona is a competitive golfer but a wonderful student as well,” Williams said. “You always want your players to be strong in three areas, the golf course, the classroom, and a good teammate, and Iona continues to excel in all three. I am very proud her.”
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.
