It was a once-in-a-generation kind of a performance.
John Moon led his team to a 104-92 home win over Oklahoma Panhandle. He took 20 shots from the field in the contest.
He made them all.
His perfect night from the field and matched a national record for Division II basketball, a 20-for-20 mark had been accomplished only once before and that back in 1984.
All of his shots came inside the arc for 40 points and he made 10-of-13 free throws as well to score 50 points on the night.
Moon was the only player in Oklahoma college basketball in 2015-2016 to hit the 50-point mark, and set new OC and Heartland Conference records with the feat.
His field goal percentage also set school and league records because, well, you just can’t shoot much better than 100 percent.
Moon’s performance eclipsed a near triple-double by teammate Jordan Rutherford (25 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists) and a 35-point night from OPSU’s Antonio Manns, Jr., each taking place in the game as well.
It was a memorable moment in a season for the then-junior in which he finished the season leading the Heartland Conference in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots. Moon twice received Division II All-American honors and was named the OSN D-II Player of the Year.
